Expert Service

Customers all over Massachusetts have been trusting Jay Moody Heating and Air Conditioning to service and repair their heating and A/C systems for over 40 years.  We employ NATE certified technicians so that you can rest assured that the technician sent to  service or repair your unit is trained and knowledgeable.  We also have the equipment necessary to properly service your HVAC system whether you have a furnace, boiler, air conditioner, heat pump or geo thermal / ground source  system.

Keeping your system cleaned and tuned up can optimize your energy usage and help prevent premature failure.  Even if your system is still functioning  “properly”, you should have it serviced at least once per season.  This will  allow us to spot problems as they are developing and BEFORE something breaks down on a hot summer’s day or a cold winter’s night.

A/C Service

We all know that we can pay our auto mechanics a little now for routine service, or pay them a lot later for a major repair. The same idea holds true for your air conditioner or heat pump. If you don’t service your air conditioner or heat pump regularly, you may find that when you need it most, it doesn’t work efficiently or doesn’t work at all.

An air conditioner is a very tough piece of equipment. It is engineered to withstand all sorts of abuse and keep on running. This is great in most respects, but it can lead to complacency about maintenance. Like a car, air conditioners need regular tune-ups to run properly.

Without regular maintenance an air conditioner loses about 5% of it’s original efficiency for each year of operation. This means that the 12 SEER unit that you bought just a few years ago may be functioning like a 9 SEER unit today! The good news is that you can recover most of that lost efficiency through regular maintenance. Studies show that with regular tune-ups a unit will maintain up to 95% of it’s original efficiency. This means that the cost of an annual tune-up is recovered very quickly in savings on your monthly electric bill and reduced repair costs. A properly serviced air conditioner will also do a better job of dehumidifying your home.

Boiler and Furnace Service

When heating season arrives don’t just switch the thermostat setting. Before you turn up the heat, have your furnace or boiler system serviced first by one of our technicians. In fact, we get many calls in which the customer has never had their furnace serviced and that is why their furnaces failed.

If you are tempted to check your heating system yourself, we suggest you resist the temptation. Unless you are a trained heating technician, you are not likely to detect problems in your system with great accuracy. This is one system that requires a licensed technician. Take for example a hot-water heating system that has not been serviced in a number of years. With this kind of system, heat gets circulated throughout the house, using water as the transfer medium. At some point the circulating pump starts to leak. The water drips onto the gas burners, which then become badly rusted. If the system is on a regular service, these problems would have been caught before they became so severe. The leak could have been repaired before it caused significant damage. At this stage, the cost for repair is much higher than if the leak had been caught earlier; but more important than an astronomical service bill, this system is no longer safe.

Here’s why a yearly service by a qualified technician is important:

Health and Safety

Your heating system burns fuel. In a well-functioning system, the heat from the combustion process goes into your house while the combustion gases vent outside. There are several reasons why combustion gases may end up flowing into the house. If an animal builds its home in your chimney, for example, combustion gases can back up into your house. Combustion gases that leak into your house present health and safety hazards. In a worst-case scenario, carbon monoxide poisoning can lead to death. When a  technician services your heating system, he or she should verify the flow of combustion gases. The technician will also look for leaking natural gas or oil and check for proper ignition. Once again, health and safety are the concern.

Service Fees

We offer free estimates.  Labor rates for normal types of service and repair are $90.00 hour during our regular working hours.

For After Hours and Emergency Service:

We provide after hours and emergency service to our customers.  If your heater goes out on a cold winter night or your A/C just can’t keep up on the weekend we can help.  Emergency service is $135.00 hour plus parts with a 2 hour minimum.  The emergency pager number is 978-217-2040.  Please only use the pager number for service emergencies.
